I checked my refrences and the 1916 was indeed the models listed for the 308 conversions ,but not all of them were converted ,and the conversion was intended to used with the 7.62 cetme cartridge ,which is a little different than the standard 7.62x51 nato round ,they will chamber and shoot the standard 7.62x51 nato (308 winchester ) round but theres some questions as to the actual strenght of the action when useing the modern 308 amunition, there are articles speaking of bolt lug setback when useing the modern hunting ammo,a 7x57 mauser md 93 action was designed for pressure test at 43,000,and the 308 cartridge will acheive pressure around 49,000,it's like useing maxinum charges in the action and the spanish steel wasn't the best choice for high pressures ,now i have had many of the 308 spanish mausers and fired them with 7.62 nato spec ammo with no adverse results BUT i won't say to do it because i don't know if youyr rifle will handle it ,BUT thats just in case it is a 7.62 converted model ,if it isn't then it should be safe to fire factory 7mm mauser ammo without any problems ,

Oveido was the arsenal in spain ,the 1930 may be a mismarked or you may be reading it wrong ,it's most likeley the stock serial number ,especially since your serial number is 1934,your rifles sounds like a nice example ,could your tell me how long the barrel is? since you think it's a 1916 spanish mauser.

bullet should go into the bore at least 1/2 way ,if a 7mm barrel the 30 cal bullet tip will proably be the only part that will go into the end of the barrel,if you have a 7mm bullet it should swallow the 7mm bullet in a 30 cal bore ,i'll try to get a pic to show how to check the bore size ,there is a bore guage thats sold at most bigger sporting goods stores that could get ya in the ball park ,look at the pics the pics of the bullet tests show the 30 caliber and a 7mm shown in a 308 barrel, and also the bore guage ,hope that helps ya but remember this i've seen some 7mm barrels that are pretty worn out and the bore test is only to give you something to start with ,if your in doubt after the test ,have it checked by a gunsmith to be safe before you shoot it! Spanish mausers are typically either found sporterized or pretty decent in there original condition ,they will typically sell for around 125-200,yours sounds like a good restoration project and if ya take your time and get the right parts it should value around 200-250 to the right collector ,there typically chambered for the 7x57 mauser cartridge more commonly called the 7mm mauser, something to think about though is ,some of these were rebarreled to 308winchester for the spanish civil guard in the 50's so make sure yours wasn't ,sometimes IF an importers rifle they marked the barrel near the front site with the caliber and ya may find the caliber and country of origin there ,most converted spanish rifles may not have the crests on top of the receiver ,but not always ,so if theres any doubt have it checked for caliber ,if ya have a 30 caliber round you could do the bullet test in the end of the barrel,if it's a 30 caliber barrel a 30 cal. make sure you order for the 93 spanish mauser when ordering ,ya can order then by phone or online ,if ya call thru the week sometimes it's hard to get an answer ,ya just gotta keep trying ,they sell alot of military parts and are quite busy.
